Global Affairs Canada through the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei (CTOT) released a statement on February 7 offering condolences to families affected by the earthquake in Southern Taiwan.
The statement reads,
It is particularly tragic that this disaster should occur at a time when Taiwanese are traveling home and gathering with their families to celebrate the lunar New Year. We hope for a swift and smooth rescue effort and that those still missing will soon be reunited with their families. The people of Tainan remain in our thoughts.

The Canada-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group also released a statement on February 8 offering their sympathies to the earthquake victims for their losses. Many concerned Canadians have also contacted the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada conveying their thoughts and well-wishes.
