On 21 June, Cape Town discovered another side of Taiwan — through popcorn chicken, scallion pancakes, pineapple cakes, zongzi, tea, music and warm community spirit.
Following last year’s enthusiastic response, the Cape Town Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce and its Junior Chamber once again hosted the 2026 Cape Town Taiwan Food & Cultural Festival at V&A Waterfront Makers Landing, attracting more than 1,000 visitors throughout the day. This year’s festival was further enriched by the International Tour of Taiwan Gourmet Cuisine, supported by the Overseas Community Affairs Council.
Taiwan’s Classic Flavors, Live from the Kitchen
The highlight of the festival was two live cooking sessions led by professional chefs from Taiwan, Chef Pan and Chef Chen. They introduced Cape Town audiences to some of Taiwan’s most beloved dishes, including Taiwanese popcorn chicken, scallion pancakes, pineapple cakes and festive zongzi
Through cooking demonstrations, cultural storytelling and tasting portions, guests experienced how Taiwanese cuisine brings together creativity, local ingredients and warm hospitality.
More Than Food: A Full Day of Taiwanese Culture
Beyond the culinary lectures, the festival featured singing by Taiwanese youth, violin performances, diabolo shows and a tea ceremony presented by the Tzu Chi team. As the festival coincided with Father’s Day in South Africa, a lucky draw was also held, with prizes including Kavalan whisky and dining vouchers sponsored by the Taipei Liaison Office in Cape Town.
From food and music to tea culture and community stories, the 2026 Cape Town Taiwan Food & Cultural Festival brought Taiwan closer to Cape Town.
