The 22nd Vancouver Asian Film Festival will take place from November 1 to 4, 2018. Two Taiwan-produced features will be showcased at this year's festival: "Late Life: The Chien-Ming Wang Story" and drama "Omotenashi."
Documentary "Late Life: The Chien-Ming Wang Story," is Taiwan-Canadian filmmaker Frank W. Chen' directorial debut. The film chronicles the efforts of renowned Taiwan pitcher Wang Chien-ming to return to Major League Baseball after a series of injuries disrupted his trailblazing career.
Drama "Omotenashi" is Taiwan-American director Jay Chern's latest feature work. His thesis short "Thief" won Best Short Film at Golden Horse Awards in 2011. The film follows the young heir of a Taiwan construction company who travels to Kyoto to oversee renovations on an old hotel. During his time with the establishment’s innkeeper and her daughter, he gains an appreciation for "omotenashi," the traditional Japanese virtue of hospitality.
