To foster literary and cultural exchange while promoting creative works in literature and culture, the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) is launching this year's short-term Writers-in-Residence program at the Taiwan Literature Base (TLB). For interested applicants, please complete the application form and upload the necessary documents within the application period.
Qualified Applicants Shall:
- be a natural person 18 years old or over;
- be able to communicate in one of Taiwan's nationally spoken languages or in English
- not have been accepted for an NMTL residency in the last two years; and
- be a writer engaged in creative works across literary genres, including fiction, essay, poetry, drama, screenplays, literary translation, non-fiction, or cross-disciplinary literary works.
Residency Venue
Muse Garden, Taiwan Literature Base
(No. 2, Lane 53, Qidong Street, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City)
* The writers in residence may stay free of charge in the Muse Garden at the Taiwan Literature Base (TLB), which is a single Japanese-style dormitory house equipped with a reception room, study, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen.
Residency Time Frame
August 13th, 2026 to July 31st, 2027
* Applicants should independently plan a residency writing program ranging from 7 to 30 days.

* To avoid potential website traffic, please submit your application as early as possible.
How to Apply
- All applications must include: (1) A portfolio statement describing the applicant's creative practice and experience; (2) a residency proposal; and (3) at least one published (commercial or non-commercial) work.
- We accept only online applications. After you complete the Writers-in-Residence application form on the official online registration platform, please submit copies of requested ID documents, a properly formatted digital copy of your residency proposal, and all other supporting materials to the same website before the deadline.
- Submitted applications may not be revised. Incomplete or late applications as well as materials submitted that are not in line with program guidelines will not be considered. (The submission date will be determined based on the timestamp recorded by the website system when the applicant completes the application process.)
Selection Process
- Preliminary review: The NMTL will conduct an initial review of each applicant's qualifications and submitted materials.
- Final review: A selection committee of 3~5 members convened by the NMTL will conduct the final review.
- After formal approval, the selection results will be publicly posted and the successful applicants will be individually notified. Applicants who are not selected will not otherwise be notified. The names of the selection committee members will also be made public.
Residency Requirements
- Residency Activities: The selected writers in residence must move into their assigned accommodations in accordance with their proposed residency schedule. They are expected to hold at least one reader engagement activity, such as a reader exchange or sharing session, on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) each week during the residency. The activities details will be jointly determined by the NMTL and the selected writers.
- Final Report: The selected writers in residence must submit a final report aligned with their proposed residency plan within five days after the residency ends. Failure to meet this deadline will result in a three-year disqualification from applying for the Writers-in-Residence Program.
