The Chinese Taipei Dragon Boat Team scored 9 medals in the 2015 World Dragon Boat Racing Championships, which took place from August 19th –23rd in Welland, Ontario. The Chinese Taipei team raced in 10 categories and won 4 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 4 brown medals. The rate of winning medal is 90% high, fully displaying competitiveness and strength of the Chinese Taipei team. During the tournament, many members of Toronto’s Taiwanese community travelled to Welland to cheer for the Chinese Taipei team.
The most intensive competitions of this year’s championships were in the female small boat 500M category and the male small boat 500M category, held in the morning and evening of August 23 respectively. In the noisy sound of gong and drum, the Chinese Taipei female team finished third, winning a brown medal while the male team finished first by the distance of two boats, winning the team’s 4th gold medal, wrapping up the Chinese Taipei team’s competition in the tournament on a high note.
After the competition came to an end, Ambassador Rong-chuan Wu, Director General of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto, hosted a celebration party at Mandarin Buffet Restaurant at St. Catharines City. During the celebration, DG Wu delivered to the team the congratulations letter from President Ma Ying-jeou, which cheered up all team members. In the party, several leaders of the Taiwanese community also presented gifts to the team to congratulate their excellent performance and sportsmanship displayed in the championships, which, the leaders said, has won great glory for Taiwan.
