Resident Visa

  1. Disclaimer and Important Notice
    • People's Republic of China (PRC), Hong Kong and Macau passport holders cannot apply for a visa and must apply for an Entry Permit instead. Information about Entry Permits can be found here: https://www.roc-taiwan.org/ch/cat/13.html
    • Applicants who have resided in or visited Afghanistan, Malawi, Mozambique, Pakistan, Madagascar or the DR Congo for four weeks or longer in the past year must follow the polio vaccination recommendation from the World Health Organization.
    • Once all the necessary documents have arrived at our office, it takes us on average 3 to 5 working days to process a visa application. During busy times and in special cases it can take significantly longer. Depending on our availability, express service may sometimes be available upon previous consultation with our office. Please do not send us the express fee without consulting as beforehand. Some applications (for example if the purpose of stay is religious work) have to be sent to Taipei. Such cases can take several months to process.
    • The list below contains all the documents that are usually needed for a visa application. However, our consular officer can always request more documents if necessary. For example, depending on the case we may ask for a copy of a Swiss/Liechtenstein resident permit for reference.
    • The ROC has the right to refuse applications for visas without providing any explanation for such decisions; the visa application fee is not refundable.
    • As indicated below, some documents need to be legalized. Legalizations can require their own application procedure, fee and application form. Please check here to find details on how the legalization process works at our office.

  1. General Information about Resident Visas

A Resident Visa allows you to enter Taiwan and stay for 30 days. Within these 30 days you need to contact the local bureau of the National Immigration Agency (NIA) and apply for an Alien Residency Certificate (ARC). Your resident visa will be canceled when you get your ARC. The ARC allows you to enter and exit the country unrestricted as often as you want during its duration. Since the purpose of resident visa is to simplify obtaining an ARC, and since Resident Visa are only valid for a short time anyways, we only issue Single Entry Resident Visa. If you have important reasons why you absolutely must exit Taiwan during your application for an ARC, please contact our office.

A list of NIA offices including addresses and phone numbers can be found at https://www.roc-taiwan.org/ch_en/post/2990.html.

Foreign nationals who need information concerning visas, residency, employment, education, tax payment, and health insurance in Taiwan, please refer to the NIA Information for Foreigners Website.
