The “Biometrics Verification System” has been launched by the NIA at Kaohsiung International airport on 18th Dec. 2013. Non-R.O.C. citizens (excludes minors under14 years old) travel to/ leave from Taiwan from the Kaohsiung International airportare required to have their biometrics (photographs and fingerprints) collected beforetheir arrival and departure. The system is expected to be fully implemented at all international airports and seaports in Taiwan by 2014. The purpose of the biometrics collection procedure is to allow immigration officers to confirm the identity of the non-R.O.C. citizens. It will make it harder for individuals wishing to falsify their identity or steal or use someone else's identity.
