The 2024 Dubai DIS International Invention Exhibition was held from December 12 to 13 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A 12-year-old student from Taiwan, Hsien-yun Hsieh, participated in the Mathematics/Science competition at the exhibition. His exhibit, the "Intelligent Auxiliary (Bath and Potty) Chair," won a gold medal and a special award for its outstanding performance. The Commercial Office of Taipei in Dubai also forwarded congratulatory messages from the President and Vice President of Taiwan to the outstanding student, Hsien-yun Hsieh.
Hsien-yun Hsieh's design, the "Intelligent Auxiliary (Bath and Potty) Chair," is specifically created for elderly individuals and those with mobility impairments, offering a safer and more convenient bathing and toileting experience. The chair features an automatic detection function that triggers an alarm if the user remains seated for more than 30 minutes without movement, addressing potential emergencies when buttons or ropes may not be accessible. The chair also includes handrails to assist elderly users in standing up, enhancing comfort. Additionally, it is made from waterproof and non-slip materials, making it suitable for use in slippery environments, and can be used not only in home bathrooms but also in medical facilities. This design aims to significantly improve the quality of life for elderly individuals and those with limited mobility, providing reliable safety and security. Despite being only 12 years old, Hsien-yun Hsieh has been learning programming and component design since grade 3 in elementary school, and his designs have won numerous awards, demonstrating boundless potential.
