On 5th December 2017, the newly established “Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Ireland” was officially launched in Dublin. Representative Simon S.K. Tu was joined at the event by Irish people from all walks of life including dignitaries from politics, business, trade, and heads of many Chambers of Commerce and by leaders of the whole Taiwanese Community. Chairman of the “Taiwan-Ireland Association”; Mr. Frank Lu, has also been appointed Chairperson of the Chamber. A senior computer engineer in Ireland for a number of years, Mr. Lu has been Chairman of the “Taiwan-Ireland Association” since 2009 and also represents the Taiwanese Community in Ireland at the “Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC)” in Taipei.
Speaking to those present, Representative Tu hailed the establishment of the Chamber as a significant milestone and major achievement in bilateral Ireland-Taiwan relations. Remarking of the Chamber, He spoke of how it will host a number of international meetings of Taiwanese business leaders from Europe and across the world and will provide assistance and support to Irish and Taiwanese businesspeople and enterprises. Representative Tu also expressed his hope that the Chamber will cooperate with the two other Chambers and help to strengthen bilateral trading relations and ultimately lead to Ireland becoming one of Taiwan’s top ten trading partners in the EU.
Mr. Lu and the invited VIP dignitaries also spoke of the Chamber’s importance in bilateral relations and remarked of their hopes to see a strong Taiwan Chamber operate in Ireland. Overall the event proved to be a successful occasion held in a warm atmosphere and the Taipei Representative Office would like to wish the Chamber every success in the future.
