To celebrate the Lunar New Year, the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Ireland and the Taiwan Ireland Association hosted a lunch at the impressive Jimmy Chung’s Buffet in Dublin on Sunday, 11th February 2018. Representative Simon S.K.and Mrs. Tu were in attendance and very much enjoyed the grand gathering. Altogether, there were more than 250 guests from Ireland’s political, economic, cultural, educational and media communities, in addition to Taiwanese individuals, students and families. The afternoon was full of exciting activities for all involved, a perfect celebration of the Lunar New Year.
The chairman of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Frank Lu initiated the event by first expressing his friendship and dedication to the overseas Taiwanese communities, and thanked everyone for their enthusiastic participation and constant support. Representative Tu was also invited to speak. His speech detailed the atmosphere of unity and cooperation between Ireland and Taiwan, and how relations continue to strengthen from year to year.
This New Year promises to be a busy and exciting one, by building on the previous successes of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, New Year festivals and a series of activities including the National Flag raising ceremony, Chinese Character Festival and hiking excursions. In fact, in order to promote Taiwan and gain recognition and appreciation from all walks of life in Ireland, more events will be held in the upcoming months; the 2nd Chinese Character Festival in February, the Taiwan Film Festival in April, the Taiwan Food Culinary Demonstration in May and Cultural Tour Teaching in July. These events not only expand on the arts exchange, but also promise to promote Taiwan’s culture and enhance international visibility.
The Lunar New Year lunch lasted three hours and ended with an exciting raffle sponsored by Taipei Representative Office. The prizes varied from award-winning prints, Kavalan whiskey, famous Taiwanese mountain tea, books, famous restaurant vouchers and a brand-new Dyson hoover for the lucky winner. Representative Tu also kindly distributed red envelopes to all the children in a gesture to wish everyone peace and happiness! May you all have a prosperous, lucky and happy New Year (of Dog)!
