The Taipei Representative Office in Ireland and the Taiwan Ireland Association travelled to County Cavan on Tuesday to donate a batch of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Castlemanor Nursing Home, Oak View Nursing Home, and College View Nursing Home.
The batch of personal protective equipment included infrared forehead thermometers, gowns, goggles, medical gloves, and medical masks. Under the witness of the Taipei Representative in Ireland, Pierre Yang, Deputy Brendan Smith, Senator Diarmuid Wilson, Dr Angel Cheng, chairman of the "Taiwan Ireland Association" and the "Craobh na hÉireann Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce (CETCC)" donated this PPE equipment to the representative of the three nursing homes, Mrs Mary Wright.
Director Wright said that the donation of PPE really touched her heart, and on behalf of the three nursing homes would like to sincerely express her highest thanks to the Taiwanese community.
Deputy Smith and Senator Wilson also pointed out that Taiwan is a global model in combating the epidemic outbreak. It is very worthwhile for Ireland to learn from such a model, and hopes that Ireland and Taiwan will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in medical care in the future. Senator Wilson especially emphasized that although Taiwan is not a member of the World Health Organization, it has devoted huge humanitarian aid to numerous countries for many years.
Representative Yang said that Taiwan produces high-quality personal protective equipment. Taking the infrared forehead thermometer as an example, the donated FORA one can accurately measure a person’s temperature within one second, with the margin of error being only + / - 0.2 degrees celsius.
Representative Yang praised how well the epidemic situation has been controlled by the Irish government. Therefore, it may be the time to think about how to build an efficient and sustainable virus inspection mechanism when social life returns to normal. Taiwan is very willing to cooperate and exchange its information with Ireland in this regard.
Chairman Cheng also said that she and her husband, Julien Thibault (from France), founded the "Scieneering Consulting Ltd", a service provider for the Pharmaceutical Industry, in Cavan. In combating the virus outbreak, Taiwanese community is proud to be a member of the Irish community and will continue to do our utmost to provide reliable medical resources for people in need.
