The Overseas Community Affairs Council's "2023 International Tour of Taiwan Gourmet Cuisines" made its lively debut in Ireland. In collaboration with the Taipei Representative Office and the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning in Ireland, the event took place on the evening of 16th May at McGrattans Pub, located in the heart of Dublin, showcasing a feast of diverse Taiwanese cuisine.
Representative Yang Tzu-Pao, as well as the former Secretary-General of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (Taiwan ICDF), shared Taiwan's experiences in agricultural technology and promoting balanced diets through international assistance. He also mentioned the World Health Organization's (WHO) guidelines on "Healthy Diet" and called for Ireland's support for Taiwan's participation in the WHO. During the event, the Taipei Representative Office in Ireland played documentaries produced by the Taiwan ICDF, showcasing efforts in promoting fruit and vegetable cultivation and designing balanced nutritional menus in countries such as Palau, Nauru, and Saint Lucia, providing guests with insights and understanding.
In the unique atmosphere of an Irish pub, Taiwanese chefs Chung Yi-Ting and Chen Bing-Wen presented classic Taiwanese dishes such as Hakka fermented pork, salt and pepper chicken, three-cup chicken, salt and pepper spare ribs, Taiwanese stir-fried rice noodles, and vegan Taiwanese cold noodles. Additionally, Taiwanese chef Cheng An-Hung, who currently resides in Ireland, offered three vegetarian appetizers: Taiwanese cucumber salad, seaweed salad, and lotus root and black fungus salad. Approximately 60 Irish political, business, cultural figures, as well as foreign diplomats stationed in Ireland, enjoyed these delicacies paired with Irish beer, creating a relaxed and lively atmosphere.
