Written by Yáng Shuāng-zǐ and translated into English by Kim Ling, Taiwan Travelogue has continued to resonate in Ireland and around the world since winning the 2026 International Booker Prize in May. Its twelve chapters, each named after a Taiwanese dish, have also sparked curiosity among readers.
On 7 September 2026, the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese hosted “Turning the pages of Taiwan Travelogue: Tea, Treats, and a Taste of Taiwan”, inspired by Taiwan Travelogue. Students and friends from different countries explored Taiwan through literature, carefully prepared Taiwanese food, tea and traditional games, discovering the history and human stories woven into this acclaimed work.
Ambassador Daniel Diann-Wen Tang was invited to deliver remarks at the event. He thanked the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese for organising this wonderful cultural programme, giving participants an opportunity to discover this celebrated work of Taiwanese literature and see Taiwan from different perspectives.
Ambassador Tang was also pleased to share that, in connection with the event, the Office is donating five English-language copies of Taiwan Travelogue to the Dublin School of Mandarin Chinese, as well as five Mandarin editions to Dublin City Libraries, encouraging readers to discover the Taiwan portrayed in the book through Mandarin.
The event also featured introductions to Taiwan’s Employment Gold Card, as well as the Ministry of Education’s Huayu Enrichment Scholarship and Taiwan Scholarship, opening up more opportunities to visit Taiwan and experience it firsthand.
