C. Raja Mohan, Director of the Institute of South Asian Studies under National University of Singapore, called for strengthened ties between India and Taiwan in his article titled “Raja Mandala: Modi’s Taiwan opportunity” published on The Indian Express on May 28, 2019.
Naming Taiwan’s geo-political significance in East Asia, its New Southbound Policy and strong manufacturing capabilities, and Taiwan’s move to attract skilled workers from the world as three reasons, Mr. Mohan called on New Delhi to take a fresh look at Taiwan and adopt a more ambitious policy with Taiwan.
Mr. Mohan further suggested an agreement on bilateral comprehensive economic cooperation is one of the many ideas to push Taiwan-India relations forward and the synergy in human resources provides the basis for massive collaborations between the two counties’ universities and research institutions.
In the end of his article, Mr. Mohan stressed that what the current Taiwan-India relationship needs is high-level political attention in Delhi to make things happen and quickly with Taiwan.
