"Travel Trade Insider" magazine in India featured a special report on the developments of Taiwan-India relationship in its latest issue of June, 2019. The main points are as below:
- Under the “New Southbound Policy,” Taiwan has renewed interest in the Indian market. Currently, Taiwan is the 16th largest trading partner with India. The bilateral trade stood at US$7 billion last year, an increase of 11% over the previous year.
- The over international tourist arrivals in Taiwan reached 11 million in 2018, out of which about 41,000 were from India. A lot of Indian companies like to stay in Taiwan for one or two nights after participating in Taiwan’s trade shows and expos. Incentive travels from India are also growing.
- James C. F. Huang, Chairman of TAITRA, said the 2nd edition of “Taiwan Expo” received tremendous response. As Taiwan and India have lots of similarities and through Taiwan Expo, he looks forward to mutually beneficial business relations between the two countries.
- Besides its diversified focus on Smart Cities, agriculture, green tech, education, culture and tourism, “Taiwan Expo” in 2019 also provided an opportunity for Indian companies to learn about Taiwan’s current healthcare development and its strength in the field of medical equipment.
- Taiwan has achieved great success in universal health coverage via its “National Health Insurance” system, with high quality services and medical equipment in place. A study shows more than 400,000 overseas patients came to Taiwan for medical services in 2018.
- Amb. Chung-kwang Tien, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, said Taiwan is a major contributor to world health and has invested over US$6 billion in international medical and humanitarian aids that have helped more than 80 countries for the past 23 years. Amb. Tien said he looks to the World Health Organization and our friend in India to recognize the justice and importance of Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly.
