The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for 2023 Taiwan Fellowship from May 1 to June 30, 2022.
The Fellowship, set up by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), aims to encourage experts and scholars interested in topics related to Taiwan, cross-strait relations, Asia Pacific and Sinology, to conduct advanced research at universities or academic institutions in Taiwan.
The TECC welcomes research topics pertaining to Taiwan’s domestic and foreign policy issues, including New Southbound Policy, regional security, implications of post-pandemic economic and political developments for Taiwan, and gender equality.
Eligibility
- Eligible applicants include foreign nationals who are professors, associate professors, assistant professors, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates or doctoral program students at related departments of overseas universities, or those who are research fellows at an equivalent level in academic institutions abroad.
- Research subjects should be chosen from social sciences and humanities, with a topic related to one of the following: Taiwan, cross-strait relations, mainland China, Asia Pacific, and Sinology.
Duration
The duration of the Fellowship may range from a minimum of three months to a maximum of one year. Recipients may begin the Fellowship in Taiwan as early as January 2023 and must complete the Fellowship by December 2023.
Financial Assistance
- Monthly grants are paid at the beginning of every month.
- Professors, associate professors, research fellows, or associate research fellows: NT$60,000;
- Assistant professors, assistant research fellows, post-doctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, doctoral program students: NT$50,000.
- One direct round-trip economy-class air ticket between the country of residence and Taiwan (with a maximum subsidy of NT$55,000 if flying from the US).
- Group accident insurance for the duration of the research in Taiwan.

- The application is open from May 1 to June 30, 2022. Shortlisted candidates will benotified in November 2022 subject to the timeline of the evaluation process.

- Research proposal (three pages in principle using a standard research format); and

- The TECC accepts applications from eligible candidates whose universities or affiliated institutes are based in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and all states and union territories of India, apart from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as Lakshadweep Islands.
