On June 11, 2026, Director-General Stephen Hsu of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC), Chennai, paid a visit to Doordarshan Kendra Chennai and was warmly received by Mr. D. During the visit, both sides engaged in meaningful discussions on Taiwan–India relations, regional affairs in East Asia, global developments, semiconductor technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the evolving role of media in today's interconnected world.
Director-General Hsu shared insights into Taiwan's economic transformation, technological advancements, and the country's globally recognized achievements in press freedom and innovation.
The discussions highlighted Taiwan's world-leading semiconductor industry, including the success of TSMC, and explored opportunities for greater India–Taiwan cooperation in trade, technology, education, culture , academic research, and student exchanges. Both sides emphasized the shared values of India and Taiwan as vibrant democracies committed to innovation, openness, and sustainable development.
The Doordarshan Kendra Chennai leadership personally invited Director-General Hsu and the accompanying delegation to visit various sections of the media house, including the Newsroom, Central Apparatus Room (CAR), and Master Control Room (MCR), offering valuable insights into the broadcaster's operations and public service mission.
Established nearly five decades ago, Doordarshan Kendra Chennai has been a cornerstone of public broadcasting in South India. With nearly 300 dedicated employees, it continues to play a vital role in informing, educating, and connecting communities through trusted journalism and quality programming.
The interaction reflected the growing friendship between Taiwan and South India and the mutual interest in strengthening cooperation across media, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.
