Tkiyet Um Ali, World Vision sign cooperation agreement

Amman, May 8 (Petra)-- The Tkiyet Um Ali (TUA), Sunday signed a cooperation agreement with the World Vision Jordan (WVJ) to launch the second phase of Taiwan Rice Distribution Project donated by the government of Taiwan. World Vision Taiwan has donated 3900 metric tons of rice to WVJ to alleviate acute food shortage of the crisis-affected Jordanians.

The launching ceremony was attended by the representative of the Commercial Office of Taiwan in Jordan, CEO of World Vision Taiwan, WVJ Head of Office, as well as the Director General of TUA.

The agreement aims to assist Jordanians affected by economic difficulties in the country and the influx of Syrian refugees where the donated rice will be distributed via TUA in sufficient quantities and on time to 18,300 vulnerable households in 12 governorates of Jordan for a period of 18 months.

Director General of TUA Samer Balker thanked the WV and the Government of Taiwan for their support and contribution saying that "World Vision’s continued support will help Tkiyet Um Ali achieve its goal of eradicating hunger in Jordan by providing sustainable food aid to vulnerable Jordanian families living in extreme poverty across the kingdom." WVJ Head of Office Steffen Horstmeier said "World Vision's partnership with TUA and the assistance of the Taiwanese government have enabled us to reach the most needy families in Jordan and make their plight a bit lighter - this is worth a ceremony and celebration like the one today. I am thankful that World Vision can be part of this project." During the first phase, WVJ has successfully distributed 3,000 metric tons of rice to around 91,000 beneficiaries between May 2014 and June 2015.

World Vision International is a faith-based humanitarian, development and advocacy organization, working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice in almost 100 countries worldwide. World Vision, with a history of working in Jordan dating back to the Iraqi refugee crisis, has been working with local partners and authorities to respond to the needs of children affected by the Syrian crisis here since March 2013.
