Symbolic launching of LED lights

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts -THE third phase of the LED Street Lights Project at Frigate Bay, which saw the installation of 63 LED street lights in the Frigate Bay area, has been officially completed and is expected to reduce the cost of electricity for government in that area.
Speaking at a ceremony to signal the completion of the project, Minister of Energy Hon. Dr. Earl Asim Martin was contented with having the project completed and was grateful to the Republic of China on Taiwan for the collaboration on the project.
“I want to start off this afternoon by saying how pleased I am to be associated with this closing ceremony…to mark the completion of the third phase of LED Street Lights and to say that we are very grateful to the people of the Republic of China on Taiwan through the Ambassador, His Excellency Tsao.”
Dr. Martin explained how these new lights could prove beneficial to the people and government.
“What will this mean for the people of this country? Initially we had 63 street lights installed with normal lighting. They were 175watts. We have street lights today, they are 80 watts and will generate the same amount of lighting. We will actually be seeing a reduction of about 50% in the actual consumption by the replacement of these 63 street lights in this particular area.”
Martin also hailed the energy saving collaborations between the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Ministry of Energy.
Resident Ambassador from the Republic of China His Excellency Miguel Tsao, thanked all who were responsible for making the project possible.
He was also proud of the relationship between his government and the government of St. Kitts and Nevis in the area of renewable energy.
