On the 18th of November, on behalf of Ambassador Edward Tao, Second Secretary Hsien-Yu (Billy) Chung attended the launch ceremony of the EcoYouth Venture Initiative, a project organized by the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF).
Officials in attendance included Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education; Hon. Troy Liburd, Minister of Education in the Nevis Island Administration; Mrs. Lisa-Romayne Pistana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts; Ms. Zahnela Claxton, Permanent Secretary of the Nevis Ministry of Education; Mrs. Siobhan Phipps-Harding, CARICOM Youth Ambassador; Mr. Damon Bacchus, Principal of Basseterre High School; as well as Third Secretary Ms. Kate Wei, Third Secretary Ms. Tina Lin, and Mr. Roy Lo, Team Leader of the Taiwan Technical Mission.
The EcoYouth Venture Initiative—jointly implemented by PADF, the Ministry of Education of St. Kitts and Nevis, and the Government of Taiwan—aims to support youth in the Federation in developing strong STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) competencies, enhance their resilience in addressing societal challenges, and foster a more sustainable and globally minded next generation.
The initiative will provide STEM education training to teachers and guide students in applying STEM knowledge to tackle local challenges such as waste recycling and sustainable tourism. Through these efforts, the program seeks to strengthen youth engagement with their communities and encourage meaningful contributions to local development.
