The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Saint Lucia hosted the 108th National Day Reception in the evening of Thursday, 9 October 2019 at Sandals Grande Resort. Counselor Bill Shih-chang Huang, Chargé d'affaires a.i. presided over the ceremony on behalf of His Excellency Ambassador Douglas C.T. Shen, who travelled with the Honourable Prime Minister Allen Chastanet and his delegation to Taiwan.
“This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Independence of Saint Lucia. It has also been a year of celebration and rejuvenation for the partnership of sustainable development between our two nations,” said Counsellor Huang.
He continued, “This year Saint Lucia has graciously hosted Her Excellency President Tsai Ing-wen, His Excellency President Su Jia-chyuan of the Legislative Yuan and His Excellency Foreign Minister Joseph Wu from Taiwan. Their visits not only help solidify the diplomatic ties between our two countries, but also rejuvenate our developmental partnership. For they have witnessed first-hand how the steady, sustainable and result-oriented approach of our bilateral cooperation can enhance livelihood of the people and help them achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. I believe that they have since become champions for further enhancement of Taiwan and Saint Lucia’s partnership in sustainable development.”
His Excellency Governor General Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac of Saint Lucia congratulated Taiwan on its National Day, and emphasised that Saint Lucia-Taiwan relationship has never been better. He praised that Her Excellency President Tsai Ing-wen’s state visit to Saint Lucia in July 2019 has futher consolidated the diplomatic bond between the two countries.
The Honorable Ezechiel Joseph, Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Physical Planning, Natural Resources and Co-operatives, stressed that Prime Minister Allen Castanet is leading the largest delegation ever to Taiwan, including professional cultural performer. It demonstrates the commitment and determination of Saint Lucia to Taiwan.
After the remarks, Governor General Cenac, Acting Prime Minister Joseph and Counsellor Huang cut a cake together and have group photos with other dignitaries to celebrate the 108th National Day of Republic of China (Taiwan).
Also attending the reception are H.E. Former Governor Dame Pearlette Louisy, Lady Raquel Du Boulay-Chastanet, The Honourable Speaker of the House Andy Daniel, the Honourable Senator Mary Isaac, Minister for Health and Wellness, The Honourable Guy Joseph, Minister for Economic Development, Housing, Urban Renewal, Transport and Civil Aviation, The Honourable Lenard Montoute, Minister for Equity, Social Justice, Local Government and Empowerment.
