The Taipei Mission in the Republic of Latvia participated in the “Asia Week”, an international cultural exchange activity hosted by the Asian Studies Center of Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania in early March. With an attemp to domonstrate Taiwan soft power, the Mission presented tea tasting, children painting exhibition and movie screening in the Taiwan Day, attracted fervent participation from teachers and students of VMU.
Packed participants not only appreciated exquisite leaflets on Taiwan tourist attractions, reprinted ancient books and colorful puppets of the legend of “Oath of the Peach Garden” , but enjoy the fresh Taiwan tea at the Taiwan booth. VMU students are interested in seeking the possibility to study Mandarin or degree programs in Taiwan, hoping to experience the most diverse and free society in the entire Chinese-speaking world.
In comparison to the traditional drum band performance provided by Japan Embassy in Lithuania, the Mission displayed awarded paintings by Taiwanese and Lithuanian children in the World School Children Painting Exhibition, which allow viewers to savor their creativity and imagination. On the other hand, feature film “Monga” vividly depicts the gangster culture of Taiwan in the 80s and brought to audience the true meaning of “What goes around, comes around”, bringing the Taiwan Day activities to a cheerful end.
