At the invitation of H.E. President Ma Ying-jeou and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. President Jurelang Zedkaia & Mme. First Lady Hannah Jurelang Zedkaia are to lead a delegation, accompanied by H.E. Bruce J.D. Linghu, Ambassador of the ROC (Taiwan) to the RMI, to pay a state visit to the ROC (Taiwan) from June 30 through July 5, 2010. The delegation members also include Hon. Foreign Minister John M. Silk & Mrs. Mary Silk; Mrs. Neijon Edwards, Chief of Protocol; Mr. Christopher deBrum, Chief of Staff of President’s Office; and Mrs. Yolanda Lodge-Ned, Clerk of Cabinet.
This will be the first state visit of President Zedkaia to the ROC (Taiwan) since he assumed Presidency in November 2009. During the visit, President Zedkaia will call on President Ma and exchange views on bilateral cooperations. President Zedkaia and his Delegation will also call on Hon. Wang, Jin-pyng, President of the ROC Legislative Yuan (Speaker of ROC Parliament). They will also attend the Welcome Salute and Honors, the state banquet hosted by H.E. President Ma, as well as luncheons and dinners hosted by Hon. Wang, Jin-pyn; H.E. Timothy C.T. Yang, ROC Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Jason Hu, Mayor of Taichung City; in their honors. President Zedkaia will also be conferred with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science by National Taiwan Normal University. They will also visit Ching-fu Group and other ship-building companies in Kaoshiung.
The Republic of the Marshall Islands has been one of the closest allies of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Pacific region. Over the years, the Governments of the ROC (Taiwan) and the RMI have jointly conducted a wide range of cooperation programs on bilateral level, as well as in the international fora. The ROC (Taiwan) and the RMI also share the common values on the respect of democracy, human rights and freedom.
