On behalf of the People and the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan), H.E. Ambassador Winston Wen-yi Chen donated a total of 8 boxes of medical equipment, medicine and medical supplies to the Republic of the Marshall Islands in Majuro Hospital on the morning of 9 July 2014. Dr. Kennar Briand, Chief of Medical Staff of Majuro Hospital, Ms. Ayako Yamaguchi-Eliou, Acting Hospital Administrator, members of the ROC (Taiwan) Mobile Medical Mission and colleagues from the RMI Ministry of Health, Majuro Hospital, staff of the ROC Taiwan Health Center and that of the ROC (Taiwan) Embassy all attended the said ceremony.
Among the donated items, there was a portable ultrasound machine that could be applied to Anesthesiology, Cardiology, OB/GYN, Radiology and Critical Care. This equipment would enable the local medical professionals here to provide more services to areas outside downtown Majuro in the future, including the outer islands. The total value of the donation was approximately USD 35,000.
During his remarks, Ambassador Chen hoped that this medical donation could be put to their best use so as to benefit more people in the Marshall Islands. Ambassador Chen also reiterated that both ROC (Taiwan) and the RMI shared the same goal to better the livelihood of the people in this great country and should work together more closely in areas such as medicine, capacity building and many more to the grassroot level.
On behalf of the RMI Ministry of Health, Dr. Briand thanked Ambassador Chen and ROC (Taiwan) for the donation and expressed his commitment to a closer partnership with ROC (Taiwan) on more medical cooperations in many years to come.
