The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Myanmar is pleased to announce that we will be accepting applications for the 2026 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) through March 31, 2026. Applicants should apply for the scholarship program online (https://taiwanscholarship.moe.gov.tw/Apply) between February 1 and March 31, 2026.
The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship is provided by the Ministry of Education (MOE) to encourage international students to undertake short-term Huayu (Mandarin Chinese) courses in Taiwan.
Duration and Stipend
- Duration: 3, 6, 9, or 12 months between September 1, 2026, and August 31, 2027.
- Stipend: Recipients receive a monthly allowance of NTD 28,000.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be Myanmar citizens of at least 18 years of age who possess a high school diploma or above, demonstrate an excellent academic record, and are of good moral character.
Please note that the following individuals are not eligible to apply.
- Overseas compatriot students or Republic of China (Taiwan) passport holders.
- Those currently studying Chinese or a degree program in Taiwan.
- Previous recipients of the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, TUSA Global Ambassador Scholarship, or Taiwan Scholarship.
- Exchange students currently studying in Taiwan pursuant to academic cooperation agreements.
- Individuals currently receiving any other Taiwan government or institutional financial assistance.
Application Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents to the office.
- An application form.
- A photocopy of their passport or other documentation that is adequate proof of the applicant’s nationality.
- A photocopy of proof of their highest education level and photocopies of related transcripts (authenticated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Myanmar).
- A photocopy of documentary proof that the person has already applied to a Chinese language center (for example a photocopy of their application for admission form).
- A signed copy of the MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Terms of Agreement.
- Statement of purpose (one page, single-spaced, size 12 Times New Roman font).
- Two reference letters written within three months.
Important Reminders
- Starting from the summer 2026 term, recipients entering Taiwan on landing visas, e-visas, or visa-free entry will not be eligible to receive the scholarship.
- Recipients are advised to prepare at least USD $3,000 for initial costs (tuition, rent, and living expenses) before the first stipend is disbursed.
- Scholarship recipients are strictly prohibited from working in Taiwan.
