The Cultural Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, in collaboration with the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC), will present Hung Dance (翃舞製作) as part of the International Gala section at the D’MOTION International Dance Festival 2025, scheduled for Oct. 24 to 26.
Founded in 2013 by Datin Jane Lew, DPAC is dedicated to promoting dance arts and fostering international connections through movement. This year’s D’MOTION is divided into three segments — MYBody: Malaysian Choreographers’ Showcase, International Gala: Contemporary Duets from Abroad, and Dancing in Place: Site-Specific Dance Project — encouraging cultural exchange among choreographers and dancers from diverse backgrounds.
The International Gala features acclaimed works from Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and the UK, showcasing five distinct contemporary duets exploring human connection, trust, and existence through the language of movement, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in a world of dance beyond borders.
Hung Dance will perform its internationally lauded pieces “Push and Pull (推拉)” and “Birdy (羽人)” at the festival. The latter was recently showcased at the George Town Festival in Penang, Malaysia, in August, where it received enthusiastic response for its outstanding choreography, lighting, and minimalist stage design, as well as the performers’ unique aesthetic blending Tai Chi and Chinese opera.
In addition, Lai Hung-chung (賴翃中), artistic director of Hung Dance, will be featured in the festival’s masterclasses, sharing insights and engaging in exchange with the Malaysian dance community.
