The 55th edition of Tea Philo lecture calls attention to Lightbox, Taiwan’s first non-profit photo library. Titled “Co-Creating an Open Photography Culture: The Mission and Purpose of Lightbox Photo Library,” Tsao Liang-Pin (曹良賓), founder of Lightbox, will speak about the mission of Lightbox and use it as an example to demonstrate how a non-profit art organization works with the community, contributing to a more equitable, inclusive culture of photography. Scheduled to take place on Saturday, 30 July at 8:00pm, this lecture will be conducted in English via Zoom platform.
Currently undertaking research as a Fulbright-Taiwan Ministry of Culture arts professional grantee at the National Art Gallery in Washington, D.C., Tsao founded Lightbox Photo Library back in 2016. He uses the library as a shared platform to advocate awareness of intellectual freedom, cultural equity and inclusiveness, as well as nurturing Taiwan’s own photography culture.
The talk will be moderated by Malaysian photography artist Jeffrey Lim. Known for his “KANTA Portrait” project that produced black and white portrait using his self-made box camera, Lim is a cultural narrator, actively engaging in dialogue and interaction with the society through photography, cultural maps, installation art, etc.
