Representative Anne Hung was invited to attend the Opening Ceremony of “Taiwan Expo in Malaysia 2022” at Kuala Lumpur’s Sunway Velocity Mall. The event was jointly unveiled by Representative Anne Hung; Sharimahton Mat Saleh, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Export Acceleration from Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) with VIPs in Taipei including Lee Guann Jyh, Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA James C.F. Huang, Chairman of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA); and Sharon Ho Swee Peng, President of Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre, Taipei. The special guests each donned a VR headset to enter the EXPOverse, specially created by HTC, to kick off this year’s event.
While inside the EXPOverse, the avatars of Representative Anne Hung and the invited guests released countless butterflies and Wau Bulan kites that represent Taiwan and Malaysia respectively. The gesture symbolizes the breaking down of borders and spatial restrictions to usher in mutually fruitful business opportunities.
Ms. Anne Hung said in her speech that the Malaysia-Taiwan trade has remained strong despite the pandemic, and the cordial relationship built over the decades has allowed both sides to achieve outstanding trade results. In 2021, bilateral trade volume increased by a whopping 26% to reach 27.7 billion US dollars. She emphasized that Taiwan Expo in Malaysia has created thousands of business meetings between Taiwanese and Malaysian counterparts, and the event is an instrumental part of Taiwan government’s New Southbound Policy. In addition to increasing business opportunities, the expo also helps foster closer ties between Malaysia and Taiwan on multiple fronts to achieve mutually beneficial interactions.
Attending 40 special guests included Tan Sri Dato' Soh Thian Lai, President of National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia cum President of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM); Lin Kai Min, National President of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Malaysia; Mr. Ding Hong Sing, National President of SME Association of Malaysia; Dr. Sean Seah, Chairman of The National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM); and Dato' David Toh Guan Seng, President of Federation of Malaysian Foundry and Engineering Industries Associations(FOMFEIA) etc..
