Tea Philo #57 turns spotlight on poet-artist Maniniwei

With a whimsical title “Transforming stealing into creating," the upcoming Tea Philo lecture features renowned poet-artist Maniniwei (馬尼尼為), who will share tips on taking ideas from one’s own cultural heritages and using them to build something new. The talk will take place virtually on Saturday, 27 August at 8:00pm.
Born in Johor, Malaysia and currently lives and works in Taipei, Maniniwei wears many hats—she is a poet, a writer, an illustrator, and in a broader sense, an artist. She obtained her BFA and MFA in Taiwan but did not dive into art-making until the age of 30. An established artist now, her picture books and poems have won acclaims widely.
The talk will be moderated by celebrated Malaysian illustrator and educator Ammi Leong (Leong Yoke Mee), whose latest picture book “Anak Murid Yang Memakai Kain Cawat” has been included in the 2022 “International Board on Books for Young People” selection list.
