Representative Anne Hung was invited to witness the signing of an MOU on talent recruitment between the Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia and National Development Council, Taiwan

To reinforce the talent exchange between Malaysia and Taiwan, The Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia and National Development Council, Taiwan co-hosted a seminar for talent recruitment and Employment Gold Card on September 8th, during which both sides signed an MOU on talent recruitment to facilitate talent exchange, witnessed by Representative Anne Hung of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia. Members of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Malaysia and Persatuan Perniagaan Malaysia-Taiwan also actively engaged in this event, with several Employment Gold Card holders sharing the experience of work and living in Taiwan.

Ms. Anne Hung, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, was invited to address at the event. “To bridge the talent gap and attract foreign professionals to Taiwan post the pandemic era, Taiwan government has rolled out the Employment Gold Card since 2018. With the advantage of multilingual ability, Malaysian talents in various fields have become a hit among multinationals. Many of them have a good command of Chinese and English, and their cultural background and values are similar to those of Taiwanese, which makes it suitable for them to develop in Taiwan. According to our data in 2021, we issued 6,528 “work permits for foreign professionals” to Malaysians, accounting for 15.9% of the total, only second to Japan’s 8,217. It did show Malaysians have great interests in working and living in Taiwan, and Taiwanese enterprises prefer to hire Malaysian employees.”

Dr. Chien-Hwa Yu, Deputy Minister of National Development Council, Taiwan stated that “Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals” enforced in 2018 comprehensively relaxed the relevant regulations for foreigners to work in Taiwan and introduced the Employment Gold Card with various preferential treatments. It is recommended that outstanding talents from Malaysia make good use of the Employment Gold Card to seek opportunities in Taiwan.

Datuk Tang Yong Chew, President of the Federation of Alumni Association of Taiwan Universities, Malaysia, said that Taiwan is a developed country, and he therefore encourages young Malaysians to study in Taiwan, stay in Taiwan to work after graduation, and then consider returning to Malaysia after they have learned advanced technologies in Taiwan.

Taiwan has issued nearly 6,000 Employment Gold Cards so far, 185 of which are in Malaysia, ranking 8th in the world in terms of the number of approved cards, which indicates active interaction between Malaysian talents and Taiwan.
