Tea Philo #58 —Huang Ting Yu on Magasick becoming an “underground” force of Taiwan’s indie comics culture
Share
The next Tea Philo talk scheduled to take place October 15 at 8:00pm shines spotlight on Huang Ting Yu (黃廷玉), co-founder Taiwan’s first indie comics shop—Mangasick.
Situated in an inconspicuous basement in Gongguan, Taipei, Mangasick began its operation in 2013 with the aim of introducing comics and graphic works across the spectrum to local readers. Aside from selling nonmainstream comics, the space also provides paid on-site access to its wide-rage collections and organizes monthly exhibitions. Huang’s passion for Manga makes her even go beyond operating the space to publish translated Taiwanese comics in Japan.
In this upcoming Tea Philo talk, Huang will share her decade-long journey of running Mangasick and anecdotes happening in this base of indie comics subculture. The talk will be moderated by founder of Comicker Union Malaysia Lau Shaw Ming (劉少鳴), a key figure in the development of Malaysia’s animation industry.
