Taiwan Scholarship 2022 is now open for application

The Taipei Representative Office in The Netherlands invites eligible students of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who wish to undertake undergraduate or postgraduate studies in Taiwan to apply for the Taiwan Scholarships offered by the Ministry of Education (MOE), ROC (Taiwan).

 

 Scholarship Quota: Two.

 

The Scholarship covers:

  1. Tuition and miscellaneous expenses such as course-credit fees, and miscellaneous basic study-related fees.
    • The MOE will pay up to NTD 40,000 each semester for each recipient’s approved tuition and miscellaneous expenses. If these exceed a total amount of NTD40,000, the remaining amount shall be paid to the university/college by the student.
    • The “miscellaneous expenses” do not include any of the following: administration fees, thesis supervision fees, insurance premiums, accommodation, or internet access. These are all the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.
  2. Living allowance: The MOE provides each recipient a monthly stipend of NTD15,000 for each university undergraduate students; or NTD20,000 for each recipient undertaking a master’s degree or doctorate studies.

 

Scholarship Duration and Time Limits:

  1. The maximum period of each scholarship is 4 years for undergraduate programs, 2 years for master programs, and 4 years for doctorate programs.
  2. The maximum length of the total awards for each recipient undertaking a combination of studies is 5 years.
  3. Annual award periods begin on September 1st and continue until August 31st of the following year.
  4. Recipients must arrive in Taiwan and enroll at their admitting universities/colleges within prescribed period.
  5. Living allowance payments begin from the month when the recipient actually begins attending the university/college, and they end when the maximum scholarship period for their degree level expires, or when the recipient graduates, withdraws from their studies, is suspended or expelled, or has their Taiwan Scholarship revoked.

 

Closing date for application:  10 April 2022

 

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for the 2022 Taiwan Scholarship, applicants must:

  1. be a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands,
  2. possess a senior high school certificate or post-secondary degree(s) with an excellent academic record.

Applicant in any of the following categories is ineligible to apply:

  1. An R.O.C. national, an overseas Chinese student, or a holder of the Alien Permanent Resident Certificate of R.O.C.
  2. A person who already has and is continuing to maintain student status at any university/college in Taiwan or who has already registered to begin studies at such a university/college. This restriction does not apply to a student who will be graduating after completing a degree that year. They may apply for a Taiwan Scholarship to pursue a higher degree.
  3. A person who has already studied in Taiwan for a degree at the same level as the one in which they currently intend to enroll.
  4. An exchange student or dual/joint degree student who has been admitted to a university/college in Taiwan in accordance with an academic cooperation agreement between that university/college and an overseas university/college.
  5. A person who has already been a Taiwan Scholarship recipient for a total of 5 years.
  6. A person who has ever previously had their Taiwan Scholarship or MOE Huayu Enrichment Scholarship revoked.
  7. A person who has received any other scholarship or subsidy from any Taiwan Government institution (organization) or any education institution in Taiwan, apart from any subsidies provided for a Taiwan Scholarship recipient by their university/college to cover the outstanding amount if the total amount of their tuition and other fees exceeds the scholarship limit.

Applicants must apply directly to the university/college for admission within the application deadline. Each university/college sets its own application deadline.

 

Please submit the following documents to Taipei Representative Office in The Netherlands (Taiwan Scholarship), Van Stolkweg 23, 2585 JM, The Hague, The Netherlands

  1. Application Form, completed and signed by the applicant.
  2. A photocopy of the applicant’s passport of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Students with multiple citizenships must also include verified copies of other passports or citizenship certificates.
  3. A photocopy of the highest degree completed and academic transcripts.
  4. Evidence of applications made to a university or college in Taiwan for the degree program.
  5. A photocopy of a language proficiency certificate:
    • For applications to undertake a program not completely taught in English: A copy of Level 3 or above results for the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL).
    • For applicant who wants to undertake an all-English program: A copy of the results of an internationally recognized English language proficiency test (e.g. TOEFL) or degrees awarded in English.
  6. Two letters of recommendation signed and sealed in envelopes by the applicant’s principals, professors or supervisors.
  7. A duly signed copy of the Scholarship Agreement.

*All documents will need to be authenticated by the Taipei Representative Office in The Netherlands before the scholarship can be awarded.

Application documents must arrive at our office no later than 10 April 2021.
