Ambassador Tom Chou on September 18 received Jacky Chen, a Taiwanese who embarked on a bike-around-the-world journey since 2015. Chen arrived in the Netherlands after 3 years on the road and travelling through some 54 countries.
Ambassador Chou said it takes physical and mental strength, tenacity and courage to take on such a journey, so what Chen is doing is very admirable.
Upon learning about Chen’s journey, the Hague alderman Robert van Asten (transportation) invited Chen to visit the city government and to learn about his trip.
Chen, a former IT engineer, said his motivation is to encourage young people to pursue their dreams, no matter what those might be. He was grateful to have encountered many kind-hearted people along the way, who voluntarily provided accommodation and assistance. He said he was impressed by the bike paths in the Netherlands, and lauded them as the best he has ever travelled on.
Chen plans to spend another 4 years to finish his journey. He will head to Africa and Asia after Europe.
