A Dinner Reception was held at Jinpin Hotel on February 17th, 2019 by the Taiwanese Association of Palau in celebration of the Lantern Festival. Over a hundred guests attended the reception, including President Tommy Remengesau, Jr., Minister of Community & Cultural Affairs Baklai Temengil-Chilton, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment & Tourism Umiich Sengebau, Deputy Chief of Staff Rebluud Kesolei, Palau Visitors Authority Chairman Ngirai Tmetuchl and PVA staffs.
Ambassador Chow wrote a poem to wish the guests happiness and prosperity in the year of the Pig. Chairman Ngirai Tmetuchl extended his gratitude to the Taiwan tour agencies for promoting Palau and expressed his wish for closer cooperation between Palau and Taiwan tourist industry.
President Remengesau first greeted the guest “How are you?” and “Happy New Year” in Mandarin and said that Taiwan is one of the most important economic engines to boost Palau’s economy. We have seen the increase of tourists from Taiwan, Japan and Korea during the Lunar New Year. He believes with the extra flight from China Airlines. Palau tourism will recover. He further stated Palau and Taiwan are both Austronesian nations, therefore, both countries share many commonalities. Palau will host the Austronesian Forum in 2019. He deeply believes that through such exchanges, Palau and Taiwan will further strengthen their relationship.
It was a successful event. Guests enjoyed the games prepared by the Association and many gifts were given away.
