President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., Senate President Hokkons Baules, and Speaker Sabino Anastacio co-hosted a farewell dinner for Ambassador Wallace M. G. Chow on October 12. Vice President Uduch Sengebau Senior, Paramount High Chief Reklai, Bilung, Cabinet Ministers, many Senators and Delegates, Governors, State Speakers and members of Mechesil Belau Women Conference, as well as Diplomatic Corps including Japan’s Ambassador to Palau Akira Karasawa and Australia’s Ambassador to Palau Richelle Turner all attended the dinner. They all wished Ambassador Chow well in the new position.
In their remarks, President Whipps, Jr., Reklai, Senate President Baules and Speaker Anatacio highly praised Ambassador Chow’s efforts on promoting Taiwan-Palau relations, with two countries gaining distinguished outcomes in the fields of infrastructure, medicine, agriculture, education, culture, tourism, and sports during his term in Palau. The brotherhood between Taiwan and Palau will continue to leap forward based on this firm foundation.
In order to recognize and highlight Ambassador Chow’s contribution to our bilateral relationships, Senate and House passed a joint resolution, and State Governors and Speakers also jointly issued a certificate to Ambassador Chow.
In his remark, Ambassador Chow once again thanked Palau’s firm support to Taiwan, through supportive statements in UNGA, WHA, and UNFCCC COP. He reiterated that he has already become one of the members in Palau Family, and he will continue to support Taiwan-Palau partnerships in the new postion with the bestowed honorary chief title “Ngirachesimer”,which means door and opportunity creator. He will open many doors and create many opportunities for the relations between Palau and Taiwan.
