The Embassy of ROC (Taiwan) hosted lunch on 10th May to celebrate the Anniversary of the Indo-Pacific Formosa Club. President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr., Vice President Uduch Sengebau Senior, Speaker Sabino Anastacio and over 10 Senators and Delegates joined the lunch.
Ambassador Jessica Lee thanked the Palau Government and Parliament’s continuing strong support for Taiwan’s participation in WHA and International Organizations (IOs), especially Speaker Anastacio and members of the House of Delegates unanimously passing the joint resolution.
Formosa Club was first established in Europe in 2019, a parliamentary group to support Taiwan and to promote the shared values of freedom, democracy, human rights, and rules-based international order worldwide. The Club expanded to Latin America and the Caribbean in the same year. The Club in Indo-Pacific Region was established in May 2020, with 17 countries and 249 parliamentary members to uphold that health is human right, to support Taiwan’s participation in WHA and promote peace, security and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific Region.
President Surangel expressed his support for the Formosa Club and the significance of the anniversary of the Club. Taiwan’s promotion of “Taiwan Care” during the pandemic has made great contributions to Palau and the world. Palau will continue to support Taiwan in becoming a member in the international organizations. In the face of the Russo-Ukish war, all the likeminded countries shall stand together to defend democracy and freedom. Speaker Anastacio emphasized that the House of Delegates has unanimously passed the resolution to support the Club and support Taiwan’s participation in WHA and IOs, and look forward the Senate passing the joint resolution soon.
During the inaugural webinar, Speaker delivered remarks on the cooperation between Taiwan and Palau in fighting the pandemic. The Vice President Senior Sengebau, Senators and Delegates participated in the webinar as well.(E)
