Ambassador Lee of ROC (Taiwan) Embassy was invited by Minister Ngirai Tmetuchl of MHRCTD and Chief Dr. Victor Yano to visit one of the six states’ tourism improvement and promotion projects funded under Taiwan’s Post-COVID Tourism Promotion grants. Witnessing the progress achieved through the funding, she expressed enthusiasm for reviving tourism activities to pre-pandemic levels. The ROC (Taiwan) Government allocated funds to the Palauan government, with Airai State showing solid progress as a promising start.
The site visit to the Stone Path Rehabilitation Project at Oikull, Airai, was guided by Dr. Patrick Tellei and attended by Minister Ngirai Tmetuchl, Governor Norman Ngiratecheboet, Chief Dr. Yano and Minister Counselor Franklin Chen of the Embassy and other guests, February 19, 2024.
The 3.2km under-construction old stone path, connecting the river front and village center and to the adjacent tourism spots, not only provides the state of art hiking trail pavement under the enchanting rainforest shade, but also envision the revival of the historical sites linking the past and the future.
The Techiaii River runs through the Hamlet of Oikull offering kayaking, canoeing and water activities that presents attractions to tourists as well as local people who love the outdoor and water activities
Ambassador Lee commends the collaboration among the Ministry, Airai State Government and traditional and community leaders materializing Taiwan’s help to the project and enhancement of the tourism, that reflects the true spirit of enduring friendship between Palauan and Taiwanese people. Minister Tmetuchl on behalf of Palauan Government expressed Appreciation to Taiwanese government’s real time assistance to promote Palau’s tourism and bring more tourists, which are essential and critical to Palau’s economy
Ambassador Lee, Minister Tmetuchl and the guests also enjoy the fresh coconut juice and meat and a real time beetle nut tree climbing and harvest demonstration during the one-hour tour. Among the guests there are Mr. Glen Seid, Mr. Scott Yano, and PVA Director Kadoi Luluked, PVA and Airai State tourism staff joining the tour.
