The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in Palau hosted the 114th National Day Reception on the evening of October 7 at Palasia Hotel. This year’s theme, “
Chip in with Taiwan,” symbolizes the shared spirit of unity, cooperation, and mutual prosperity between Taiwan and Palau.

President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. was on an overseas visit and designated Minister of State Hon. Gustav Aitaro to represent him and extend congratulations on behalf of the Palauan government.
The event was also graced by Reklai, Bilung, and many traditional leaders.
All cabinet ministers—including Minister Ngiraibelas Tmetuchl (MHRCTD), Minister Charles Obichang (MPII), Minister Steven Victor (MAFE), and Minister Jennifer Olegeriil (MOJ)—attended, along with Senate President Hon. Hokkons Baules, several senators, delegates, and state governors. The atmosphere was vibrant and festive.

The ceremony opened with the national anthems of Taiwan and Palau
.
Ambassador Jessica C. Lee highlighted in her remarks that 114 years ago, the Republic of China was founded as Asia’s first democratic republic, and today Taiwan continues to uphold democracy, freedom, and human rights, while contributing to global peace and prosperity through innovation and economic strength.
She noted Taiwan’s impressive achievements—2nd in Asia for freedom, 6th in global competitiveness, and the world’s 20th-largest economy.
Ambassador Lee emphasized President Lai Ching-te’s “Value Diplomacy” and his vision of an “Economic Powerhouse without Sunset,” realized through the Three-Chains Strategy (三鏈戰略)—
Global Democratic Value Chain,
Indo-Pacific First Island Chain, and
Non-Red Supply Chain. These reflect Taiwan’s commitment to regional stability and economic security.
She added: “The safer Taiwan is, the more stable the world becomes; the more resilient Taiwan is, the stronger the global front of democracy and technology will be.”

Ambassador Lee also reaffirmed that Palau is one of Taiwan’s most sincere and trusted partners.
This year not only celebrates Taiwan’s 114th National Day, but also the 26th anniversary of Taiwan–Palau diplomatic ties. The two nations continue to deepen cooperation through Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung’s “Allies Prosperity Project (榮邦計畫)”, advancing net-zero transition and renewable energy projects—including solar-battery systems
, EV charging stations
, and zero-carbon hydrogen vessels
.
She recalled that in January 2025, Minister Lin led a delegation of Taiwanese business leaders to Palau to attract more investment and promote economic resilience. Beyond economic growth, the friendship is also reflected in people-to-people ties—notably the Palau National Baseball Team, which trained in Taiwan and proudly won the
gold medal in baseball at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games, a triumph both nations celebrated together!

In his remarks, Minister of State Gustav Aitaro conveyed President Whipps’ warm congratulations and reiterated Palau’s deep friendship and shared democratic values with Taiwan.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude for Taiwan’s long-standing assistance in renewable energy, sustainable development, healthcare, and education, and reaffirmed that Palau will always stand firmly with Taiwan on the international stage.

“Palau Brave, Stand with Taiwan; Taiwan Brave, Stand with Palau!”

This moving song symbolized the unbreakable bond between the two nations.
Meanwhile, interns from the Taiwan Technical Mission presented a shadow play depicting Austronesian cultural ties and creativity, representing fusion and friendship between Taiwan and Palau.

The event concluded with the premiere of the video
“Taiwan and Palau 2025: A Year of Friendship and Achievement,” showcasing joint successes under the Three-Chains Strategy. The film received enthusiastic applause
, and the celebration ended on a high note—with guests wishing for lasting friendship, peace, and prosperity between Taiwan and Palau.
