Following the success of the viewing event of “Life of Pi”, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Center held another film festival at the Nimas Cinema in Lisbon on May 18th. A total of around 100 people attended the activity, including members from political, economic and academic realms as well as overseas Taiwanese. Local school for the elderly and the Casa dos Lilases retirement home were also invited.
During his speech, Representative Her briefly introduced the contents of “Go Grandriders“ and “A Year in the Clouds” and also stressed that they are different from movies as the documentaries reflect the true aspects of Taiwanese society. “Go Grandriders” not only symbolizes the persistent spirits of the elderly but also shows that Taiwanese government and philanthropic organizations promote assistance jointly. “A Year in the Clouds” demonstrates the beautiful sceneries of Taiwanese mountains and the idea of living in harmony with nature of the aborigine Taiwanese people. In a time of growing conscience for the environment, it is especially worth thinking more deeply about this film.
During the intermission, traditional Taiwanese small eats were served. At the end of the event, many expressed appreciation for the invitation and said that the production of Taiwanese documentaries is full of emotion. Taiwanese food also helped enhance the understanding of the culture of Taiwan; the event was regarded as a huge success by the participants.
