Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang attended the United Chinese Library’s Chinese New Year gathering held on 1 February 2020 at the invitation of the Library’s President, Mr. Loo Teck Ming. Over 30 guests were at the event, including the Library’s executive and ordinary members, office bearers of the Alumni of Taiwan Universities & Colleges, and officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore. In the face of the rising 2019 novel coronavirus infection in Singapore, all present were reminded to practice good hygiene and personal vigilance.

In his address, Representative Francis Liang conveyed his best wishes for the United Chinese Library and extended his Lunar New Year greetings to everyone. He also highlighted the close ties in the areas of trade, culture, education and tourism between Taiwan and Singapore. As the United Chinese Library steps into its 110th year, Representative Liang expressed his hope that it will continue to exemplify Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s ideals of liberty, equality, and fraternity. He also commended the United Chinese Library for its staunch support for the various initiatives by the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, and for its achievements as an important Chinese cultural center in Singapore.

After paying their respects to Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the United Chinese Library, everyone at the center joined in the singing of songs and tossing of yusheng.
