Taiwan’s Jin Man Yuan Opera Troupe and Mei Jiang Dance Group performed at Kallang Theatre to mark the 155th anniversary of Char Yong Association in Singapore.

Taiwan’s Jin Man Yuan Opera Troupe and Mei Jiang Dance Group were recently invited to participate in a combined cultural performance with Hakka chorus (Cha-Iang) and Hakka melody (Mini Cha-Iang) groups from the Char Yong Association in Singapore. The performance event was held for two nights on 27th and 28th December 2013 at the Kallang Theatre to commemorate the 155th anniversary of the establishment of Char Yong Association in Singapore.
Mr He Qian-cheng, President of the Char Yong Association, officiated at the performance event which attracted overwhelming responses from Singaporeans and with turnouts numbering at about 1,700 for each night. The performing troupes put up a splendid performance, fully exhibiting the fine essence of Hakka Culture and drawing loud cheers and applause from the audience.
At the opening ceremony, Representative Hsieh addressed the audience and highlighted the various achievements arising from cultural exchanges between Singapore and Taiwan. Specifically, he also expressed optimism that both countries will continue to strengthen exchanges in Hakka culture in the future.
