Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang attended the Chinese New Year celebration hosted by the Taipei Business Association in Singapore on 24 February 2018. About 170 persons, including the commissioners, senior advisors, and coordinators of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, members of the Taipei Business Association in Singapore, and other officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore gathered at the celebration.
In his address, Representative Liang wished everyone present a Happy Chinese New Year. He spoke of the close partnership between Taiwan and Singapore in the areas of trade, tourism as well as cultural and educational exchanges. In 2017, Taiwan surpassed Indonesia to become Singapore’s fifth largest trading partner and tourist arrivals between Taiwan and Singapore exceeded 820,000. Taiwan artistes and performing arts groups have also become a favorite fixture at Singapore’s River Hongbao Festival and its annual Huayi Festival.
Additionally, Representative Liang commended the Taipei Business Association in Singapore for its excellent programs and its consistent support for the initiatives of the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore. He also presented the Presidential letter of appointment to the Association’s new President, Mr. Shih Chih Lung, as commissioner of the Overseas Community Affairs Council in Singapore.
