Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang graced the United Chinese Library’s memorial service to commemorate the 93rd death anniversary of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, founding father of the Republic of China, and the center’s Art Collection Exhibition on 11 March 2018.
Representative Liang led the memorial service, which was attended by over 70 persons, including personalities from the Singapore Global Chinese Poetry Association, the Singapore Raoping Huay Kuan, the Taipei Business Association in Singapore, the Alumni of Taiwan Universities and Colleges, and the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Wan Qing Yuan). In a solemn ceremony, they stood in front of a bust of Dr. Sun to pay their respects, and joined as one in the singing the “Prime Minister Memorial Song” and other club songs.
During his address at the event, Representative Liang said that the United Chinese Library founded by Dr. Sun to disseminate revolutionary ideas, is not only an important Chinese cultural center but also a memorial center to remember Dr. Sun and the contributions of Singapore’s early Chinese pioneers to the revolutionary cause. The deep friendship between Taiwan and the United Chinese Library is evident from both the gifts of calligraphy on display at the Art Collection Exhibition and the many good wishes penned by Taiwan’s prominent political figures including the President, Vice President and the Premier.
