On 21 April 2019, Representative Francis Kuo-Hsin Liang led officials from the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore to attend a performance by the Bunun Mountain Traditional Music Chorus and cellist Annie Chang at the Esplanade’s “A Tapestry of Sacred Music 2019” festival.
Singing is a central aspect of the Bunun Tribe culture and the Bunun Mountain Traditional Music Chorus is known for preserving the original Bunun voice and songs from their ancestors. At the English captioned performance, the full-house audience was treated to the mellifluous sounds of the cello and the harmonious melodic singing of the Chorus. Through its growing appeal to audiences in and out of Taiwan, the Chorus demonstrates that aboriginal oral traditions are not only highly detailed and complex, but are also a spectacle to behold, from the mesmerizing quality of the human voice in devotion, to the color and rhythms of the music.
