On 26 July 2019, Representative Francis Liang Kuo-Hsin presented awards for the 2019 Taiwan Scholarship and the Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship to Singaporean recipients at a ceremony held at the Taipei Representative Office in Singapore. Also present at the awards ceremony were the friends and families of scholarship recipients, and past scholarship recipients.
In his address, Representative Liang highlighted Taiwan’s ongoing focus on its people-centered New Southbound Policy. He hoped that the New Southbound Policy, through encouraging academic and talent exchanges between Taiwanese and Singaporean youths, will promote greater cross-cultural understanding and prosperity between Taiwan and Singapore.
The alumni of the scholarships shared their experience of living and studying in Taiwan. They expressed their admiration for Taiwan’s comprehensive healthcare system and cultural vibrancy, and urged the scholarship recipients to immerse themselves fully in the warm and friendly culture of Taiwan.
This year’s three Taiwan Scholarship recipients will be heading to the National Tsing Hua University, the National Taiwan University of Arts and the Taipei National University of the Arts to pursue various Master programs, while the two Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship recipients will be pursuing their language studies at the National Taiwan Normal University.
