Taiwan Trade Mission to Northern Africa held a B2B event attended by more than 60 businesses on September 30 in Somaliland.
Among the dignitaries attending the opening of the event, Deputy Minister for Trade and Tourism Faisal Mohamoud Saed, Director General Abdirashid Ibrahim Abdirahman, Secretary General Ibrahim Ismail Elmi of the Somaliland Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, and Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Hagi, Somaliland’s Representative to Taiwan.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Allen Lou of the Taiwan Representative Office recalled the MOU on strengthening Business and Trade Relations signed between Taiwan and Somaliland, when Minister Mohamoud Hassan Saad led a Somaliland Business Delegation to Taiwan last year. In recognition of the need to strengthen bilateral business and trade relations, the two governments agree to jointly promote opportunities to engage business communities of both countries, and to explore and advance business opportunities. He further emphasized that since Taiwan and Somaliland mutually established representative offices in 2020, the two sides have strengthened cooperation and achieved many successes in areas of business, public health, ICT, and agriculture. Based on shared value of freedom and democracy, Taiwan will further deepen the business and trade relations with Somaliland, he added.
Deputy Minister Faisal Mohamoud welcomed Taiwan Trade Mission and commended the visit as a significant milestone in Taiwan-Somaliland’s deepening economic ties. He elaborated on the ongoing economic transformation undertaken by the government of Somaliland, with highlights as Berbera Trade Corridor, Berbera Special Economic Zone and Berbera Port. Reaffirming the government’s unwavering commitment to creating an environment conducive to business and investment, he said that Somaliland will continue to strengthen the bonds between Taiwan and Somaliland, with a view to creating new opportunities for investment, collaboration and share prosperity.
Organized by Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), Taiwan Trade Mission during its three-day visit, also visited Berbera Port and the Special Economic Zone, and was cordially received by top management of DP World Berbera and Head of Berbera Economic Zone.
