The government of Swaziland has bought police scuba diving equipment to the value of E600 000.
The equipment includes a boat, an inflatable dinghy which carries six people that will be used by the police to search for people who have drowned in rivers or exhibits which are thrown into the river.
The service’s scuba diving team also received diving shoes, jumpsuits, goggles and a life boat which will help the scuba diving team. Commissioner of police Isaac Magagula thanked government for the equipment and stated that they were grateful as they needed it.
“The government saw the good work that is being done by the unit and they decided to buy us this equipment. The Republic of China on Taiwan also donated on time the money they gave us as we will buy vehicles and more equipment. The unit faces a lot of challenges as drownings are on the rise in the country,” he said.
Pitso Ndlanda, the head of the scuba divers’ unit, also thanked government for the equipment while promising the nation they would work diligently.
“We will put all our effort when working and we ask the public to also help us when we are working so that we can be efficient when conducting the searches. We would like to thank the commissioner and management for the equipment,” he said.
