Minister Prince Hlangusemphi, Minister Dlamini, and Ambassador and Madam Tsai
The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) held a dinner on Saturday, 09 February 2013 to celebrate the Chinese New Year of snake. The dinner was attended by the Minister of Economic Planning and Development HRH Prince Hlangusemphi, Minister of Public Works and Transport Ntuthuko Dlamini, Principal Secretaries and their families, colleagues from the Taiwan Technical Mission and the Taiwan Medical Mission and their families and members of the Chinese community in Swaziland. A total of 120 people got together and enjoyed a wonderful evening.
Ambassador Peter Tsai conveyed regards from President Ma Ying-jeou, Minister of Foreign Affairs David Y.L. Lin and Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission Minister Y.Y. Wu on the occasion. He also reiterated the government’s policy on the Diaoyutai Islands in East China Sea. The government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) insists that the Diaoyutai Islands belong to the government of the Republic of China on Taiwan and it determined to protect its but in order to foster regional peace and stability, President Ma Ying-jeou proposed an East China Sea Peace Initiative on 05 August 2012, calling on related countries to refrain from any antagonistic actions, shelve controversies, resolve disputes through peaceful means and seek possible ways for cooperation. Ambassador Tsai requests all members of the Chinese community to support government’s policy on this regard.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Economic Planning and Development who came an hour late because he had to bid farewell to His Majesty King Mswati III who was going to South Africa the Principal Secretary Bertram Stewart said the relationship between the two countries has lasted for over 45 years and over the years the assistance provided by the Republic of China (Taiwan) has improved the rural areas greatly with the provision of electricity, water and many other things. He also congratulated the Chinese and the government of the Republic of China for a prosperous new year of the snake.
The Ambassador’s wife Mrs. Tsai used some of her money according to Chinese tradition to put into a red envelope (Hong-Pao). All the children received one Hong-Pao each and it means that they will grow up smoothly and study well.
