MBABANE – The Embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan (ROC) provided financial support for various projects in different ministries to the tune of US $3 585 810 about E36 million.
The funds were donated through the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development which in turn handed them over to the ministries.
Ministries which benefitted include the Ministry of Health which received about E10 million, the Ministry of Education E2 069 140 and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy which received about E6 million.
The Ministry of Information Communication and Technology received E14 683 190 and the Ministry of Economic Planning received about E3 105 800.
Making the presentation, Ambassador Thomas Chen said he was very pleased to present the financial assistance of the various projects under the different ministries. The projects include the Bio- technology Park infrastructure, rural electrification project, purchase of computers and printers for government, water supply for rural schools and the procurement of medical equipment for government hospitals and health centres.
Ambassador Chen said the most important areas for any country’s development were health and education. He said health care extends people’s lives while education transformed their lives.
“That is why over the past years, the government of the Republic of China on Taiwan has contributed a lot of funding towards improving these two areas in the country,” said Ambassador Chen. He said being long-term friends with the country, they understood that Swaziland was facing a lot of challenges, especially lack of funds for purchasing the necessary computers and printers to better government services.
Minister of Economic Planning and Development Prince Hlangusemphi said the donation from ROC was a positive start towards the year.
The minister said government was grateful through the bilateral cooperation for approving the funding towards the five projects.
