A virtual event promoting digital resilience for small and medium enterprises was staged under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum July 5-6 from Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
Organized by the MOEA’s SME Administration, "APEC SMEs New Paradigm of Digital Resilience Forum" involved public and private sector representatives from 16 APEC member economies including Japan, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, Thailand, the U.S. and Vietnam.
In opening remarks, MOEA Minister Wang Mei-hua said the forum echoed the Putrajaya Vision 2040 on digital capacity building and inclusive growth, and the 2022 APEC theme “Open, Connect, Balance.”
It provided an opportunity for SMEs in APEC member economies to work hand in hand to narrow the digital gap and promote business continuity, the minister said.
The forum featured policy dialogue with shared experience on deployment of digital technology, as well as three panel discussions on its use to upgrade manufacturing processes, enhance service models and identify solutions for micro and small businesses.
A highlight was the keynote speech by Digital Minister Audrey Tang, who said SMEs need to bolster digital resilience to better respond to external factors in the digital economy era. Digital transformation plays a key role in fast-tracking inclusive growth and economic recovery, she added.

To share best practice from 30 thriving SMEs in APEC member economies, an online exhibition is also being held to facilitate cross-border/cross-sector exchanges, the MOEA said. (SFC-E)
